Burmese and the closely related Lolo dialects, as well as the Kachinish and Kukish languages of Myanmar and neighboring nations, are members of the Sino-Tibetan language family’s Tibeto-Burman group. Modern standard Burmese has changed more from Old Burmese than other dialects; the Arakanese dialect is particularly conservative.
